opportunity knocked

in my last post i hinted at

why i have been absent-minded

as paul harvey would say 

here's the rest of the story

shortly after the bouckville antique show

i was contacted by a local newspaper publication editor

(who is also a blogger and an etsy shop owner)

after she had visited my blog.

she asked if i would be interested in having my home

featured in a decorating supplement called

upstate home

who  me?

my home?

are you kidding?!

{squeal}

i pondered for a mere fraction of a second

and responded,

yes!
(in a bit more reserved manner, of course)

i was then contacted by mj, the editor of upstate home.

we arranged for a day to meet and within a few short weeks we had the interview.
mj spent some time with us visiting, talking and taking notes on the history,
details, paint colors, and styles of the decor and house.

she made it so easy and relaxed it was really a delight to work with her

the next step was the photo shoot

which was set for october 13th.

i had 4 weeks to get our home picture perfect ready.

 i had started working on projects prior to the interview

and had accompished much in a few short weeks.

this is what was completed from the lengthy to-do list 

• removed paint from fireplace mantel
• painted fireplace screen black & distressed
• laundry room was finished & the decor put up
• back porch floor was painted & the stairs rebuilt
•  "fake" attic door was added to garage & window frames painted
• house numbers were painted black (they were blue & faded)
• paint was removed from window frame in sitting/tv room
• "camp" decor added
• wallpaper was removed from back entryway
• painted the upper walls of entryway & changed decor
• paint was removed from stairway baseboards
• wallpaper border was removed from upstairs hall
• which also removed some of the wallboard which led to...
• removing the peg rail, spackling holes, and painting upstairs hall & stairway

• painted the sewing studio/guest room
• made new pillows for master bed
• finished lap quilt (yes, finally!)
• added ladder to wall to hold said quilt
• removed paint from lid of blanket chest
• (to be continued-part 2 to remove paint from rest of it)
• made new pillows for livingroom
• (which i hated & have changed already)
• sanded down coffee table;repainted & added stencil to top
• purchased lots of mums, pumpkins, gourds & corn stalks
• paint touched up here and there
• changed decor & furniture on porches
• added mums, plants, pumpkins, gourds, stalks and pinecones to said porches.

and then after all that was done

i must say that it felt SO good to get all this accomplished
as much of the above had been
on a to do list that was several years old


it was exhiliarating, tiring, and mind-blowing but we got it done!

can you say exhausted?!


 

the publication will be hot off the press on november 5th
i.can.not.wait!
