Euphemisms and Hard Drives

my two year old laptop had been giving me some trouble lately.
showing me warnings like,

"operating system not found"

"windows shut down to prevent damage"

"unmountable boot volume"

and about a week ago it finally....

"bit the dust,

bought the farm,
(that would be from the farmer in the dell)

flatlined,

gave up the operating system,

kicked the hard drive,

and is

dead as a doornail."

Oh and wouldn't you know...
i NEVER backed up anything!

nada...nothing...

no
pictures

no
files

no
pictures

no
documents

and
did i mention

no
pictures?

yes, that would be the last two years worth of pics
including all my antique & junk finds, repurposed goods, holidays, family vacations, etc.

oh, i was so SICK!

really now,
how hard would it have been to plug that little zip drive in
and load it with at least my pictures?!

documents and files can be re-created
but as you know pictures cannot.

and btw most of the pics i had deleted off my camera..so no backup ANYWHERE!

however
(insert angels singing)

there is a rainbow in the midst of all this
on our way to MA last weekend
if you look to the far right, you can see the double

since sending my laptop to the "computer hospital"
(aka family techie friend)
he WAS able to pull off ALL the important stuff

like

PICTURES!
(doing the happy dance now)

i will then have a new hard drive installed into my laptop
and have everything re-installed

SO....
the moral of the story is:

BACK UP YOUR HARD DRIVE
my bloggy friends!

and have a wonderful Sunday!

  7. Hi Judi,
I am so happy for you that you were able to retrieve all your pictures...that would have truly upset me too! Were you able to get to Brimfield on your trip to MA? As you know, I was not able to set up after all...had to be with Mom. Hope you made it and had fun!

  12. Great that you were able to get your pictures back. I don't back up as often as I should...guess I need to change that

Thanks for your visit to my blog. The piece you asked about is a Butter Slab reproduction. They have been discontinued but I think the Cote de Texas blog has some advertised in her sidebar.

  13. Oh how I love a happy ending. I think most of us are guilty of ignoring the back up thing. My mom called me 3 days ago and told me her computer crashed - the tech guy was able to save her pictures. Yeah! Glad your pictures are back safe and sound.
Thanks for visiting me again and congratulations on 100 - I'm 102:-) Have a great weekend.

  14. That's a good lesson for me. I never back up anything :( What a beautiful rainbow. I've never seen as many rainbows in my entire life till we moved to Oregon. I think God gave us extra rainbows because we have to deal with so much rain.

  15. I have had many scares also from forgetting to back up things! For a while I saved EVERYTHING to my jump drive, which I lost for a few weeks. I didn't have my name on it or anything, but luckily a librarian had found it. Your blog is lovely! I love decorating and thrifting blogs! Thanks so much for stopping by last week and commenting on the post about my mom. My mom and I haven't gotten along well for most of our lives, but I'm trying to bridge the gap by showing I do genuinely appreciate and admire her. I really appreciated your comment!
